Rising global costs drive local fertiliser price increases

05/01/2010

Increasing global prices of imported stock and a drop in the Australian dollar have forced CSBP to increase the price of its nitrogenous and ammonium phosphate products.

CSBP Fertiliser Sales and Marketing Manager Ben Sudlow said that the global prices for diammonium phosphate (DAP) and urea had increased by 29 percent and 26 percent respectively over the past six weeks.

Mr Sudlow said that local fertiliser prices were based on the cost of imported raw materials and finished fertilisers at time of purchase in Australian dollars.

“Increasing global prices and a weakening Australian dollar have combined to result in higher prices for CSBP products including urea, Flexi-N, sulfate of ammonia, Agras, Agstar, Agflow and MAP,” Mr Sudlow said.

“We have drawn on our existing inventory held in Western Australia to delay passing this increase on to our customers for as long as we can.

“Inevitably an increase in global pricing does flow through to impact on local prices.”

Mr Sudlow said that CSBP had a number of imports planned for the coming months.

“We continue to review factors that impact our product prices such as offshore fertiliser prices and shipping freight costs,” Mr Sudlow said.

“Continued strengthening of global prices for nitrogenous and ammonium phosphate-based fertilisers will be reflected in our local prices.”

Mr Sudlow said that customers could contact their local CSBP area manager, Landmark or CSBP independent sales agent for information about CSBP’s latest fertiliser price list.

CSBP Limited is a division of Wesfarmers Limited and is a major manufacturer and supplier of chemicals, fertilisers and related services to the mining, agricultural and industrial sectors.
