CSBP to trial greenhouse gas reduction technology in Australian first
CSBP Limited has today announced plans to trial nitrous oxide reduction technology that, if successful, could almost halve the company’s total greenhouse gas emissions.
Due to start in February next year, the trial will involve the use of a catalyst in one of the company’s two nitric acid plants at its Kwinana industrial complex, 40 kilometres south of Perth, to convert nitrous oxide gas to inert nitrogen gas.
Nitrous oxide is a greenhouse gas emitted during the production of nitric acid. Each unit of nitrous oxide emitted is equivalent to 310 units of carbon dioxide.
CSBP’s CEO (Chemicals) Ian Hansen said that CSBP would be the first nitric acid producer in Australia to use the catalyst technology, which will be sourced from Europe.
